FAQs

What is the ISRO Scientist / Engineer SC (CS) exam pattern?

Single 90-minute objective written test, 80 questions for 240 marks. Each correct answer carries 3 marks; a wrong answer attracts a deduction of 1 mark. The cutoff for being shortlisted for the interview is high, typically in the top single-digit percentile.

What is the eligibility?

B.E. / B.Tech in Computer Science / IT (or equivalent) with at least 65 percent or CGPA 6.84 / 10, from a recognised Indian university. Final-year students at the time of application are usually eligible. Age limit is normally 28 years (with relaxations).

How does ISRO CS overlap with GATE CS?

Roughly 80 percent of the syllabus is the same: Architecture, OS, DBMS, Networks, DSA, Algorithms, TOC, Compilers. ISRO additionally tests Software Engineering at depth. ISRO does not currently use Engineering Mathematics as a separate section, but maths concepts appear inside the CS subjects.

Can I prepare for ISRO CS and GATE CS together?

Yes, this is the most efficient combo. Use your GATE CS preparation as the base. Add 2 to 3 weeks of focused Software Engineering revision plus ISRO PYQs in the final stretch. ISRO's question style is more direct and concept-driven than GATE.

How often is the ISRO Scientist exam held?

Once a year, typically through the ICRB (ISRO Centralised Recruitment Board). Notifications are released on isro.gov.in. Vacancies and timelines vary year to year.

Is there a stage after the written test?

Yes, shortlisted candidates are called for an interview, usually held at an ISRO centre. The interview weight is significant and tests both technical depth and communication.
